Discovery: Mud to Glaze

Serendipity brought a five gallon bucket of seafloor sediment to my door during a semiannual firing of my gas kiln.  Curious, I inserted a glob into a spyhole to see what 2300˚Fahrenheit would do to it.  Slideshow shows stages of developing ideas to my livelihood.  From 1996 to 2016, I glazed pots with muds that researchers collected from the seafloor and drilled from rocks.  Each sample a story, another version of itself, a window into Earth's processes.
