In 1996, potter Joan Lederman was firing her kiln when Chris Griner brought a bucket of deep sea sediment from Research Vessel Oceanus. Unaltered, It melted into ceramic glaze and for the next 23 years Joan glazed pots with sediments and rock powders -- with ceramic writing about their sources. After 46 years having a series of fuel-burning kilns, I dismantled the last one and stopped making pots in 2016.
