26" high by 14" wide, earthenware clay

Very few people have seen this piece, although I made it in 1990 after seeing Mandela on the Boston Esplanade in 1990. I shaped it using a rhythmic pinching method that I learned from African women. Read the note to see what I incorporated into the clays (pinched and rolled using a dried corn cob, a tradition of native Americans).


It was all I could do to express my full-hearted wish for humans to live harmoniously. A melting pot for peace, fired in an electric kiln and then pit-fired. You can see You Tube videos of Mandela speaking. He said,"Nothing can stop our date with destiny."
